Art Show Success: Easy Branding Tips

Spring has sprung, and with it comes the busy season of art shows, pop-ups, and live painting demos. I've been fortunate to be a part of several art events this year. Along the way, I've picked up some tips and best practices that have helped me navigate these experiences. Here are a few of my favorites.

1. Bring a Table:

Even if you work at an easel, having a table at your display area is an easy game-changer. Dress it up with a sign – even a simple laser printout in a plastic frame works like magic. Display your name / logo, web address, social media handles, and any sales or promotions. You'd be surprised how many attendees take a moment to peruse your sign, even if they're not ready to strike up a conversation.

2. Tools of the Trade:

Your table isn't just a surface for your artwork – it's a place to make connections. Leave a pretty notebook or clipboard to collect names and email addresses from eager art enthusiasts. And don't forget to include a stack of business cards or postcards. Postcards are not only budget-friendly but also serve as a great takeaway for attendees. Make sure they feature your contact information to keep the conversation going after the event ends.

3. Reinforce Your Brand:

Cover your table with a machine-washable tablecloth in your brand color(s) and try to wear clothing that aligns with your brand palette. These simple steps can significantly enhance the visual impact of your booth or set-up. Additionally, it is an easy way to ensure that photos or videos taken at the event reflect your brand identity.

4. Live Painting Demos and Art Sales:

Before you dive into your creative zone, make sure you're well-versed in the terms of your agreement regarding art sales. While you may not be able to sell the artwork created during your demo, don't let that stop you from showcasing it. Consider bringing along smaller pieces to adorn your table and give attendees a taste of your artistic style and offerings.

Live Painting demos are a great way to network with potential collectors. When I am doing a live painting demo, I like to bring partially completed projects that I have a general game plan to complete.

5. Pack Supplies:

Be sure to bring extra pens, sharpie markers, paper, tape, hanging wire, scissors, hand sanitizer or cleaning wipes, paper towels, and bottles of water to have on hand. You never know when you might need it.

These tips have helped me create a more engaging and professional presence at art shows and live painting demos. Each interaction is an opportunity to share your passion for art and connect with fellow enthusiasts. So let your creativity shine and schedule some pop-ups or painting demos.
